People who attack the emergency services will be jailed for twice as long under a new law aiming to crackdown on the “national scandal” of abuse.
It will make it a criminal offence to assault workers including police, paramedics, firefighters, prison officers, search and rescue personnel and custody officers.
The current six-month maximum sentence for common assault will be doubled to a year for the new crime created by the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill, which has today been given royal assent.

Emergency fire crews had to cut through the security door of a taxi repair garage under railway arches in Bethnal Green to remove propane gas cylinders in danger of exploding when a blaze broke out during the night.
Three taxis and part of the workshop were damaged, and there were reports of injury, so they got help from sources as www.kwdllp.com/personal-injury/ for this case.
The firefighters managed to prevent the flames spreading to other garage workshops along Cudworth Street, housed under the Liverpool Street main line.
“We had to work quickly,” Brigade watch manager Paul Rozan explained. “We used specialist cutting equipment to cut away the door and get to the fire to prevent it spreading to neighbouring businesses.”
Crews from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Shadwell, and Shoreditch fire stations removed three propane cylinders which had been exposed to heat and put them at a safe distance in time.
The fire was discovered soon after midnight by a passer-by who dialled 999. It was under control buy 1.45am. The cause is being investigated.

London’s first ever all electric fleet of black taxis is launched to on the streets of the capital from today.
The fleet of 150 vehicles will be delivered via the Sherbet RIDE app, allowing Londoners access to the first taxi app that will allow them to pick from a fleet of exclusively electric vehicles, although for people having accidents in cars, the use of injury lawyers from sites as https://www.spauldinginjurylaw.com/areas-served/alpharetta/personal-injury-attorney/.
Sherbet RIDE is launched to provide Londoners with a premium black taxi service that minimises the user’s environmental impact. The black taxi industry is still worth £1.4bn to the London economy and Sherbet RIDE aims to bring the best of the London black taxi industry’s heritage to the modern day.
This will be achieved through stringent driver training and incentivisation and the innovative use of technology to maximise passenger experience minimise environmental impact.
As well as providing a unique offer to Londoners, Sherbet Taxis are also aiming to future-proof the London black taxi industry in the face of impending new legislation

Eleven buses caught fire and seven have been completely destroyed in a garage in Farnborough Hill, Orpington
London taxi driver Ryan Bailey, 42, who lives opposite the site, said:
“There was a massive explosion that woke us up shortly before 4am this morning.
“The bang literally shook the windows, we thought we’d have to evacuate. When we looked out we saw one bus on fire and a fire engine.
“Then there were a whole series of explosions. Within 20 minutes it had spread to a massive inferno.”
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said at the height of the blaze, eleven buses were alight and control officers took around 40 calls from the public.
Some residents talked of hearing “explosions” and “loud bangs” as the fire spread through the depot.

Driverless taxis will be on the streets of London by 2021 — that’s the aim of three new government-backed pilots.
The first London pilot — announced by the Department for Business — will see 15 self-driving vehicles available to book in North Greenwich. Four taxi services — including Addison Lee — will be involved. One of these services will allow passengers to ride anywhere within the borough of Greenwich.
A second London pilot — ServCity — involves six self-driving Land Rovers, available across four different (yet-to-be-named) London boroughs.
In all, £25m of government money is being put into the pilots, which will also see an autonomous bus service across the Forth Bridge from Fife to Edinburgh.

A MINICAB DRIVER CRUSHED A CYCLIST BECAUSE HE WAS DISTRACTED BY HIS MOBILE PHONE HAS BEEN BANNED FOR DRIVING.
Abdelyekini Olafusi of Hoskins Close, Canning Town, hit the 41-year-old woman at the junction of Theobalds Road and Clerkenwell Road in Islington in May last year.
When the 57-year-old appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, the court heard that he was waiting at traffic lights when the lights turned green, he moved off and went to make a right turn.
He clipped the cyclist’s back wheel, and she fell to the ground – but Olafusi kept driving and went over her.
The court heard that he initially thought he had gone over a speed-bump, and that she was lucky she didn’t die.
The victim suffered a broken leg, a fractured pelvis and a wounded chest.
A year later, she is still recovering from her injuries.
Olafusi received a 15 month driving ban and was ordered to pay costs totalling £1260
Detective Sergeant Cheryl Frost said his reckless driving is “a stark reminder of the dangers and consequences of using a mobile phone whilst behind the wheel.
“The victim suffered horrific injuries, and was incredibly lucky not to have been killed.
