Segregated cycle lanes are putting patients’ lives at risk because they prevent traffic moving out of the way of ambulances, medical leaders have warned.
The College of Paramedics said the new model of kerbed lanes, which are fiercely supported by cycle safety campaigners, leave drivers nowhere to go when they see blue flashing lights behind them.
For some of the most critical emergency patients, such as those suffering cardiac arrest, every minute added to the time it take to reach hospital can significantly reduce the chances of survival.
The College on Friday called for town planners to re-think the introduction of fully segregated lanes in order to allow better traffic flow in congested city centres, with the best accommodation using resources from sites as capitolstudents.com.

The City of London Corporation is introducing an experimental traffic scheme from 1 October 2018 on Aldersgate Street. Read the documents below and send us your comments by 1 April 2019.
The City of London is suspending the ban on U-turns for northbound traffic on Aldersgate Street at the junction with Fann Street on an experimental basis.
Residents in Fann Street and ward members have informed the City Corporation that vehicles traveling north on Aldersgate Street are using Fann Street to change direction and travel southbound due to the ban on U-turns at the north end of the central reservation in Aldersgate Street. Vehicles are making three types of movement to be able to travel southbound. Smaller vehicles and those with a small turning circle are able to turn within the mouth of Fann Street. Other vehicles, including smaller vehicles, either make a three-point turn in Fann Street or travel further into the street to use the entrance to Bunyan Court car park to turn.

Three unusable water cannon bought by Boris Johnson when he was mayor of London have been sold for scrap, at a net loss of more than £300,000.
Johnson bought the crowd-control vehicles from the German police in 2014, in anticipation of social unrest, without checking whether they could be used on London’s streets. In one of his most humiliating episodes as mayor, the then home secretary, Theresa May, banned them from use anywhere in England and Wales. It left the capital’s taxpayers with three expensive white elephants.
The current mayor, Sadiq Khan, pledged to claw back as much money as possible on the redundant vehicles by selling them. But after almost two years the mayor’s office admitted defeat in its attempt to find a reputable buyer.
It announced on Monday that it had agreed to sell the vehicles for just £11,025 to Reclamations Ollerton, a scrap metal yard in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
The fee recoups 3.4% of the £322,834.71 spent on the vehicles since 2014.
The 25-year-old vehicles cost £85,022 in 2014, but they were found to be riddled with faults and required expensive modification to make them roadworthy. This included £32,000 to comply with the city’s low emission zone, and almost £1,000 on new stereos.

Chris Johnson still needs to raise £4000 through his crowdfunding efforts for his employment claim against My Taxi.
If the target of £15,000 is not met within the next 10 days then the case will be unable to go ahead.
A preliminary court date has been set for the 8th January 2019.
Chris needs to raise a total of £18,000 by the end of December for this case to proceed, Chris said if the target is not reached there will not be the money to pay the barristers to represent him at the employment tribunal.
You can find Chris’s crowdfunding page at https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/mytaxi/

Lisson Grove advice from inspector Sandhu MET cab unit
I am writing in relation to the incidents that have been taking place in the Lissons Grove area such as making off without payment, thefts, robberies and criminal damage to vehicles. I am requesting your assistance in sending out messages to drivers and also in trying to gather information/intelligence. Can you please encourage drivers to report all suspected crimes or crime related incidents to police. I have been told that there may be information/intelligence on social media which has not been passed to the police and would request that any information/intelligence that is on your social media sites is passed to police with details of who has supplied it. This will help us build up a picture of what is happening, where and when it is taking place and those that are involved. It could also be the vital bit of evidence that might help solve a crime.
We have been carrying out overt and covert patrols in the area and are also working with the local SaferNeighbourhoods Team to provide crime prevention advice to drivers. Again I would request your assistance in raising awareness so that drivers understand the key risks such as carrying money in the cab, leaving mobile phones or other property on show and leaving the cab. Some crime prevention measures that can be taken include refusing a job if you feel unsafe, keep doors and lockable screens shut, try not to leave the cab, if you feel something is not right drive away and contact police to report crimes or crime related incidents.

You can now own a unique Prototype London Taxi offered on behalf on its late owner.
The Metrocab was built by Henley Craft of Portsmouth and was first registered in 1970. After trials lasting around two years, it was displayed in the London Cab Company museum in South London. When the museum was dispersed it came to its current owner.
The vehicle unused for about three years is likely to needsome recommissioning to seeing it running on the roads again.
There were just two different prototype Metrocabs built and this particular taxi is number one.

A private hire driver who sexually assaulted three female passengers has been sentenced yesterday at Wood Green Crown Court.
Hire Mire, 51 years old from Harrow, received two years’ imprisonment to run concurrently. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which prevents him being in the same vehicle as other females he doesn’t know.
The driver can also not apply or act to be a licensed Private Hire driver or Taxi driver with any authority within England and Wales.
Mire was found guilty on Friday 9 November 2018, at Wood Green Crown Court of three offences of sexual assault by touching.
The first offence took place on 22 September 2017 in the Buckinghamshire area. Over the following two days he committed a further two offences in Surrey and Hackney.
Following a separate trial he was convicted on 9 April 2018 at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court of two offences of section 4a Public Order. These two offences involved speaking to lone female passengers in a sexual manner, making them feel intimidated and vulnerable.
The first of these incidents took place on 22 May 2017 in Camden; the second on 22 September 2017 in the Buckinghamshire area.
Police were informed by Transport for London in October 2017 that Mire had been responsible for the assault on 24 September in Hackney. The female had made a complaint to the private hire company who in turn informed TfL. An investigation was launched by officers from the Met’s Taxi and Private Hire Policing Team.
In each of the incidents Mire targeted lone females. He would either sexually touch them or make sexual remarks of a graphic nature. In one case, after trying to grab the victim’s hand and speaking to her in a suggestive manner he made 21 attempts to contact her via her mobile phone after she gave into his demands that she hand over her phone number.

Florida Uber driver allegedly solicited sex, or “a sexual favor,” from a passenger that requested a ride to work via the ride-sharing app. The passenger reportedly canceled the request after receiving the indecent proposal from the driver but made sure to report the incident to Uber.
Matthew Marston of Orlando, Florida, reportedly hailed an Uber around 3 a.m. earlier this week. His driver allegedly then messaged him before pick-up with the offer of riding for free if he performed a sexual favor.
“Hey, I’ll give you a free ride if you let me [redacted],” the driver allegedly told Marston, according to NBC 2 WESH.
“I was shocked. It felt uncomfortable,” Marston told the channel. “Of course I canceled the Uber. But I was uncomfortable calling another Uber. You know, I was thinking about calling out of work.”
Marston followed by hailing a second ride but was still issued a $5 cancellation fee for his first ride.
“It was a five dollar fee for canceling it,” Marston added. “That’s why I’ve been trying to get in contact with them [Uber].”

LONDON (Reuters) – Uber Technologies has hired an ex-adviser to former British prime minister David Cameron to lead the ride-hailing firm’s lobbying efforts in northern Europe, less than a month after the company won a reprieve to operate in London.
The U.S. company has appointed Adam Atashzai as its head of policy for northern Europe, which includes the UK and countries in the Nordics and Benelux, an Uber spokesman told Reuters. His role will include engaging with governments as well as academics and charities, the spokesman said. Atashzai declined to comment.
The appointment comes after Uber recently moved to improve strained relations in the British capital as it faced the threat of a ban in its most important European market.

Atashzai is currently a partner at Finsbury, a public relations firm owned by WPP, and was previously deputy political director to Cameron. He left politics following Cameron’s resignation in the wake of the June 2016 EU referendum and joined Finsbury later that year.

He went on to say: Top officers in TfL should be investigated to see if they have any financial conflict of interest in this gridlock madness.”

The Charity cars wash raised a massive £657.57 for the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, it was such a success that there are now plans for a further 2 Charity Car Washes next year.

Hundreds of cabbies gave up their day yesterday to transport veterans to the cenotaph from all major rail stations and various other locations.
Mike Hughs in an interview with Cab Chat said that he thought this years event was the best yet, with more taxis than ever, more help from companies within the taxi trade and more helpers as marshalls with families of cabbies, knowledge boys and girls and staff from associated companies helping out.
Plan insurance were there in force helping with the marshalling at Victoria Station.
The day had such a good feeling and atmosphere about it with many of the general public asking what the cabbies were doing and praising them.
This sort of event really does go a long way to raising the profile of the London Taxi Trade.

TFL sat before the GLA Transport Committee today to give evidence.
David Kurten asked Helen Chapman is an app booking plying for hire or a pre booking, Helen replied a pre booking and then 3 minutes later stated the whole app booking process needs looking into!
Steve Garelick made the case for a London minimum fare but didn’t really elaborate on how this would be achieved, it’s quite simple Steve, PH operators need to raise the prices, but no they wouldn’t want to do that for fear of passengers returning to using the best taxi service in the World.
James Fararr spoke very well about workers rights and employment status and the fact that many PH drivers were being exploited, but didn’t really tackle the elephant in the room that there is far too many PH vehicles on the road. Also when asked how many members the UPHD had he would not answer, stating that the UPHD believe their member numbers are confidential.
Gareth Powell also confirmed that he believe interacting with an app while driving is unsafe.
When question about the ridiculous amount of time TFL are taking to process driver license renewals and what are TFL doing about it, Helen Chapman replied stating that they are tackling the problem by switching off the telephone lines during the daytime to divert resources. There was no response as to why it takes so long, over 4 months to process a license renewal.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A point to ponder, if an app job is considered by Helen Chapman to be a pre booking does the same apply when a doorman hails the cab instead of the passenger? No the Taxi is still plying for hire in the same way as any vehicle offering their services for immediate hire via an app.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
TFL have promised to install 300 electric charge points across London by 2022, although they want 9000 electric cabs on the road by the end of 2020, and it must be remembered that only a small proportion of these promised charge points will be Taxi only.

Not only were TFL sitting before the GLA Transport committee on Tuesday morning but it was also the Task and Finish Group on Taxi and Private Hire sitting in Westminster Hall yesterday afternoon.
Ian Duncan Smith spoke about they way in which Private Hire are plying for hire and taking Taxis traditional street work by using an app and he stated that we cannot have it both ways and that the Government need to look at defining Plying for Hire.

A claim that drivers at taxi giant Addison Lee are workers, not self-employed, has been upheld by the Employment Appeal Tribunal, in a “huge win” for workers’ rights.
The GMB said courts had agreed “once again” that the firm’s drivers are legally entitled to rights such as the national minimum wage and holiday pay.
The union welcomed an EAT decision upholding a finding by an Employment Tribunal last year on behalf of Addison Lee drivers.
The decision will affect thousands of Addison Lee drivers and follows similar “ground-breaking” rulings involving taxi hailing firm Uber and delivery company Hermes, said the GMB.
This is another huge win for GMB over bogus self-employment. Once again, the courts have agreed Addison Lee drivers are legally entitled to workers’ rights such as the national minimum wage and holiday pay rights. Other employers should take note – GMB will not stop pursuing these exploitative companies on behalf of our members.

Information has come to light that the recent Lisson Grove Mob attacks have been reported incorrectly by the Metropolitan Police. They have been recording the attacks as thefts from vehicles.
In a letter to Karen Buck MP, Neil Reynolds Detective Inspector of the Gangs and Proactive Unit in Westminster stated that there were only 2 attacks in June, 2 in July, 4 in August and 0 in September, he does however go on to say there was a sharp rise in October.
Neil Reynolds also states that they have no record of the George Vyse attack!
The majority of these reports have not involved violence and are recorded as thefts, only two offences have been recorded as robberies where the victim were punched both of these occurred in October.
Having reviewed the offences many of these offences were not reported to the police at the time of the offence but have been reported 1-2 days later and have limited investigative opportunities through which to identify the suspects adding to the difficulty in prosecuting the offenders.
* remain cautious when transporting groups of young men around Edgeware Road and the Lisson Green area
* Keep front passenger door locked and window closed when transporting such groups
* Be weary of requests distracting you to the back of the cab e.g. seatbelt stuck or wheelchair ramp required
* Do not keep your valuables in view on the front passenger seat or consul area
* Always lock your cab and keep processions safe when exciting the vehicle
* Report crimes to police immediately and insure any CCTV footage is produced to the police at the earliest opportunity.
You can also see, detective Inspector Neil Reynolds isn’t very clued up about taxis… referring to front passenger seats which will only be found in minicabs not Taxis
